Week 4 : Websites Review
I feel that a business website is an extension of the business. It should be easy to navigate and give a great clear picture of what the business is about or has to offer. Having a poor/ hard to understand website will steer people away for the website and lose possible customers. I found a couple of good websites along with some that were not so good.
A good example of a bad website I visited was www.pennyjuice.com. One factor that made this site a little unattractive was the beginning of the website. It was not clear what www.pennyjuice.com was selling, also it difficult to navigate to through the site. The small text (that were not highlighted) at the top of the website made it a little difficult to know that they were links. once I finally did click the link it took me to the main page. on the main page I notice that their logo was small and tucked in the corner. Although the site was colorful and a little drawing to the eye it made it hard to concentrate on the small text that explained their product. I feel that the website should not have been so colorful, also that the text should have been a little bigger, and the website should have been a little more customer friendly (easy to navigate).
Another example of a bad website is www.jamillin.com. This site had a lot of thing happening on the first page. it was difficult to know what the site was about. I personally still do not know what site was about or offered. Another problem the site had was the advertisements. The advertisements on the side just added to confusion of the site. Over all this website was just very confusing and extremely hard to understand.
One of the Great examples of a website that had good design and was easy to navigate is www.apple.com. From the beginning it was clear to see what product they wanted advertised and draw attention to. There new products the IPhone 8, IPhone X, and apple watch was the first thing on the homepage. They had a great picture of the phones with a vary detailed description of the product when you clicked the picture. I liked that the pictures did not overwhelm the reader and cluster the website. Overall the website was easy to navigate and also had tabs that were easy to find. www.apple.com was one of the better sites I had the pleasure to view.
www.nps.com was a great site that did not consist of a business. It was a site talking about national parks in each state. The website as a whole was easy to navigate and figure I out how it worked and what it offered with little to know effort. I liked that the search tab was at the beginning of the website, making it easier to find the park you wanted information about. This website is a great example of a well put together website that holds the viewers interest.
Great post! One great point you made throughout this post was about consistency I think that is so true. If the design, branding, and aesthetic are not consistent with the product or service, it can be really confusing. One thing we do not want to do is confuse people and turn them off of our product or service because when that happens the consumer tends to seek our competition. It is great to note what does and doesn't work with design, branding, and aesthetic. Great post. Thanks for your insight.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Terrell! Sometimes businesses don't think about the importance/impact their website will have. Luckily nowadays there are so many website builders online who can help to have a great website. Like pennyjuice.com probably they didn't have the tools that are available at the moment. Their website; if they still in business, needs urgent beautification because their lack of C.R.A.P.H.T.E.D. is not helping to promote their product at all.
ReplyDeleteYou make some great points about websites. These are an extension of the business and therefore will bring customers to you just like a physical location. If sites like pennyjuice and jamillin were business we walked into and there physical location was the same as their site, I believe customers would walk out.
